The heavens are telling the glory of God

“The heavens are telling the glory of God.”  That is the famous line at the beginning of Psalm 19.  This morning it led me to jot down a quick list of things that God is, or has, and what he therefore offers to us:

Praise – this was the first word I wrote.  God is praise-worthy, and he calls for praise from us.  He therefore gives us the gift of praising him.  Which is a huge benefit to us.  This may seem counter-intuitive to someone not familiar with it.  But we were created to praise God – it’s not our only purpose, but it’s an important part of what we’re here for.  When we praise him, we ourselves grow up into more glorious beings, which is what he wants for us.  Somehow the act of praising blesses the person praising as well as the person being praised.  In the same way two lovers praise each other, and both enjoy doing so.  The relationship grows as a result.

I then wrote:

Perfection

Beauty

Love

Glory

Holiness

Might

Majesty

Power

Wonder

Joy

Amazing gifts for God to give to us.  All inspired by the first verse of Psalm 19 – and also by the sight of almost any sky.  Because the heavens are telling the glory of God.
